'Ohana Breastfeeding & Nutrition

The term 'Ohana in "''Ohana Breastfeeding & Nutrition", represents a core value and philosophical approach that we embrace in providing breastfeeding and nutrition services to nursing babies, their parents, and in educating their overarching support system at home. In the Hawaiian language, "''ohana" means family, however, this term is not limited to blood related relationships. It speaks to the concept of a larger family who are bound together by genuine compassion, support, and respect for each other. We believe that it takes a true 'ohana to support and care for our babies and their families. To be a part of an 'ohana is a great honor and we consider every opportunity one of tremendous privilege. We believe every 'ohana deserves a breastfeeding experience they desire and it is our mission to assist in this life-lasting experience.

Mihoko Yacavone, MS, IBCLC, RDN

International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)

Mihoko's passion for supporting breastfeeding families was developed because of her own breastfeeding struggles with both of her daughters.  When she became pregnant, she was employed as a dietitian in a public health setting where she often encouraged and educated moms about breastfeeding. Therefore, she felt quite prepared to breastfeed her own baby. However, that quickly changed when her daughter arrived prematurely with jaundice and a tongue tie.

In all, what helped her with her breastfeeding journey was the support that she received. She had challenges but because of her professional background, she knew colleagues and professionals who could help her.   It was the true genuine compassion that she received from her breastfeeding ohana that helped her get through the challenges. And that is what she strives to provide her clients who are in need of support.

Seeing hundreds of newborn babies and parents, she has come to realize that each mom/dad is an expert of their own body and their baby's needs.  She is committed to listen to her clients so that they can achieve their personal feeding goals by providing evidence based information and unbiased support.
